Grant scheme to replace lead pipes and fittings

The Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government has issued two new information leaflets in order to assist members of the public who may wish to apply for the lead remediation grant, the Department of Housing and Local Government.

The Replacement of Lead Supply Pipes Guidance Note & The Grant to replace lead pipes and fittings leaflet.

The Replacement of Lead Supply Pipes Guidance Note offers guidance to homeowners on the replacement of water-supply pipes made of lead. This may also be a useful document for homeowners to provide to plumbers that they engage in remediation work.  The Grant to replace lead pipes and fittings leaflet provides user-friendly information to customers on all aspects of the application process for the lead remediation grant.

Please note that Irish Water has introduced a Customer Opt-In Lead Pipe Replacement Scheme. Where Irish Water customers agree to replace lead pipes on the customer side of the property, Irish Water will replace the lead pipes on the public side of the property. However, in order for customers to avail of the customer opt-in scheme, they must apply to Irish Water before their own plumber carries out any work.
